He was a master of satire. Satire uses humor to point out problems in society. He used his wit to talk about things like greed and ignorance. He also fought for women's rights in the Middle East. He helped start the first magazine for women in his country. His writing helped people think about fairness and truth.

In 1906, he founded a special magazine called Molla Nasraddin. The name comes from a 13th-century character named Nasruddin. In Azerbaijani, the name means "to tell it like it is." This name showed the magazine's goal to show real life. The magazine used many drawings to reach people. Artists like Josef Rotter and Oskar Schmerling made these pictures. These drawings helped people who could not read. They used simple symbols to talk about big social issues.

Jalil's journey as a writer began with teaching. He was born in the Nakhchivan area. He went to a school in the city of Gori. In 1887, he graduated from that school. For ten years, he taught in many small villages. He lived in places like Bashnorashen and Ulukhanli. Later, he moved to the city of Erivan. In 1903, he moved to Tiflis to work for a newspaper. He wrote his first short story there. It was called "The Postbox."

Jalil worked hard to protect the Azerbaijani language. He did not like how new words changed it. He thought using too many foreign words made it confusing. He also helped work on changing the Azerbaijani alphabet. His magazine, Molla Nasraddin, faced many hard times. It was banned in both Iran and Turkey. Because of wars, he had to move to Tabriz, Persia. He lived in Tabriz for many years. He finally settled in Baku in 1921. He died in Baku in 1932 at age 65.

His ideas reached far beyond his own home. Many writers in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan were influenced by him. He wrote many different kinds of stories. He wrote short stories like "The Disappearance of the Donkey." He also wrote plays called comedies. Some of these were "The Corpses" and "The Madmen Gathering." He even wrote a tragedy called "Kamança." His work changed how people wrote satire in the Middle East. He remains a very important figure in literature.
