Jackass (franchise)

Jackass is a famous American comedy franchise that began as a TV show on MTV.

It was created by Jeff Tremaine, Spike Jonze, and Johnny Knoxville. The show features a group of friends performing silly pranks and stunts. These stunts often involve physical pain or being tricked by friends. The show became a huge part of American culture in the 2000s. It was even named one of the "New TV Classics" by Entertainment Weekly.

Each episode is a collection of different stunts and jokes. The cast members play pranks on each other and on the public. Some stunts are very silly, while others are quite difficult. The crew used a special logo of a skull and crutches to show danger.

They also put warnings on the screen during the show. These notes told people not to try the stunts at home. They even asked viewers not to send in videos of dangerous acts.

The idea for the show started with Johnny Knoxville in the mid-1990s. He moved to Los Angeles to work in commercials. He wanted to film himself testing self-defense tools like pepper spray. At first, magazines did not want to print his stories.

Then, an editor named Jeff Tremaine saw his ideas. He helped Knoxville film these stunts for a magazine called Big Brother. This helped bring the original cast members together.

Jackass officially started on MTV on October 1, 2000. The second episode was a huge hit for the network. It drew 2.4 million viewers between the ages of 12 and 34. The main cast included people like Bam Margera and Steve-O. Other members were Chris Pontius, Ryan Dunn, and Dave England. They also had Jason "Wee Man" Acuña and Preston Lacy.

The crew eventually formed a company called Dickhouse Productions.

Today, Jackass is much more than just a single TV series. It grew into a massive media franchise with many different parts. They released six feature films through Paramount Pictures. There are also spin-off shows like Wildboyz and Viva La Bam. Fans can even play Jackass video games on computers or phones.

Some fans collect special DVD sets that show stunts that never aired on TV. This shows how much the franchise has grown since the early days.
