This includes music, videos, and podcasts.

Apple first showed iTunes in 2001. It was built to help people organize music. You can use it to play songs. You can also rip songs from CDs. This means moving songs from a disc to a computer. iTunes uses metadata to keep things neat. Metadata is extra info like the artist or album name.

In 2003, Apple added the iTunes Store. This let people buy and download songs. The program also helps manage Apple devices. For a long time, it was used to set up iPhones and iPads.

As time went on, iTunes grew. It added support for movies and e-books. It even had an App Store for mobile apps. Some people felt the program became too big. They said it had too many extra parts.

Now, Apple is changing how things work. On many computers, iTunes is being replaced. It is splitting into new, separate apps. These are called Music, Podcasts, and TV. However, iTunes still works on Windows computers. It is also still used for audiobooks.
