It is one of the largest museums in the region. People visit to see nearly 500,000 different items. It is an encyclopedic museum, which means it holds a wide variety of things. The museum shows art and objects from many different times and places. It helps people understand the history of the Land of Israel and the world. This makes it a very important place for learning and culture.

Visitors can explore the museum through several special wings. The Archaeology Wing tells the story of the ancient Land of Israel.

The museum has a long and interesting history. It was first established in May 1965. Teddy Kollek was the person who helped start the museum.

The original buildings were designed by an architect named Alfred Mansfeld. In 2010, a big project to grow the museum was finished. Architects Efrat-Kowalsky renovated the buildings and doubled the gallery space. This allowed the museum to have even more room for its many treasures.

There are many famous objects kept in the museum's care. One special place is the Shrine of the Book.

This white, dome-shaped building holds the Dead Sea Scrolls. These are the oldest biblical manuscripts in the world. Because the scrolls are so fragile, they must rest in a storeroom sometimes. The museum also has a model of Jerusalem from the Second Temple period.

The museum connects the past to the things we see today. It keeps important Jewish art and life items in the Mandel Wing.

This collection includes items from the Middle Ages all the way to the present day. By looking at these objects, we can see how people lived long ago. We can also see how artists create new things right now. The museum is a bridge between ancient history and modern life.
