He was a nuclear physicist. This means he studied the tiny parts of atoms.

Rabi found a new way to study atoms. He used a method called nuclear magnetic resonance. This way lets scientists see the magnetic parts of an atom. This work was very important for science. It even helped him win the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1944.

His ideas helped make many useful tools. One tool is the cavity magnetron. This is a part used in radar and microwave ovens.

His work also helped create MRI machines. Doctors use these machines to see inside the human body.

Rabi was also a great teacher. He taught at Columbia University for a long time. He even served as an advisor to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He helped start big science labs in the United States and Europe.
