Many people speak these languages every day. Persian is a very large one. It has about 92 million speakers. Pashto is another big language with 55 million speakers. Kurdish is also common with 28 million speakers.

All these languages come from one old ancestor. We call this ancestor Proto-Iranian. Long ago, tribes moved to new lands. They settled in places like Central Asia and the Iranian Plateau. As they moved, their speech began to change.

Experts group these languages into stages. There is Old Iranian, Middle Iranian, and New Iranian. Old Persian was spoken by people in the southwest. Avestan was a sacred language. It was used for religious texts called the Avesta. These languages show how much people's speech can change over time. Today, these languages help people share their stories and cultures.
