Intuit is a large American company that makes special software for money.

This business helps people and small companies manage their finances. They are based in Mountain View, California. The company is currently led by a CEO named Sasan Goodarzi. Most of their money comes from work done inside the United States. Their software is used by millions of people to handle taxes and business costs.

Many different tools work in different ways to help users.

TurboTax is a popular application used to prepare tax forms. QuickBooks is another tool that helps small businesses with their accounting tasks. They also own Credit Karma, which helps people monitor their credit scores. Mailchimp is a platform used for sending marketing emails. Some of their professional tools, like Lacerte, are built for large accounting firms. These programs help experts handle very complex financial forms.

The story of Intuit began in 1983 in Palo Alto, California.

Two men named Scott Cook and Tom Proulx started the company. Cook had a big idea while working at Procter & Gamble. He realized computers could replace paper and pencils for personal accounting. He met Proulx at Stanford University to help build the software. Their first product, Quicken, was coded using languages like BASIC and Pascal. They even used a $15 rebate to help sell their software in 1991.

Intuit has grown very large through many important steps.

On March 12, 1993, the company went public on the NASDAQ stock exchange. This gave them money to buy other companies, like Chipsoft in San Diego. In 1994, their total value reached $2 billion. By May 2018, their annual revenue was over $5 billion. Their total market value reached about $50 billion around that same time. In July 2024, the company announced it would lay off 1,800 employees. They want to use those resources for new generative AI technology.

Sometimes, the company has faced hard jobs regarding how they treat customers.

In 2019, reports found that Intuit used tricky ways to steer people. They moved users from free TurboTax services to paid versions. They used methods like hiding certain search results or using misleading discounts. This led to investigations by the Senate and the New York State Department of Financial Services. In 2022, Intuit agreed to pay a $141 million settlement. This was to settle a case about misleading advertisements.
