Scientists use the station to do research in microgravity. Microgravity is a state of near-weightlessness. This helps them study how things grow and move. They study stars and the weather on Earth. They also study how space affects the human body. This helps us plan trips to the Moon or Mars. Humans have lived on the station without a break since the year 2000. This is the longest time people have stayed in space.

Scientists even study how fire burns in space. They want to learn how to live far from Earth.
