They work together in a big group called the International Astronomical Union, or IAU. This group was started on July 28, 1919, in Brussels, Belgium. Now, its main office is in Paris, France.

The IAU has a very important job. It is the main authority for naming things in space. They give official names to stars, planets, and asteroids. They even name the features on the surface of those planets. This helps all scientists use the same names.

The IAU helps people share new ideas. They hold big meetings called General Assemblies. These meetings happen every three years. They also host nine small meetings every year. These meetings help scientists work together. The IAU also works with the United Nations. They help plan how humans might use the Moon in the future.
