Industrialisation is a major change for a society. It turns a group of people from farmers into factory workers.

This process reorganizes how an economy works. It moves people away from living on farms. Instead, they begin to focus on manufacturing goods. This shift creates new ways to make and sell things. It also changes how people live and work together.

This change happens in several big steps. First, machines replace manual work in places like farms.

Next, people build large factories, mines, and refineries. Later, new inventions like the steam engine change everything. The internal combustion engine and electricity also help. People use assembly lines to make goods much faster. They also build railways and canals to move items.

History shows us how this started a long time ago. The first Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain. This happened from the mid-18th to the early 19th century. It soon spread to Belgium, Germany, France, and Switzerland. It also reached North America. By 1850, over 50 percent of people in Britain lived in cities.

Later, a Second Industrial Revolution arrived in the mid-19th century.

Many different places have seen these changes. In Chile, Charles Saint Lambert built copper furnaces by 1840. By the 1870s, Chile had sugar refineries and textile factories. In East Asia, the Four Asian Tigers grew very fast. These include Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. They grew between the early 1960s and 1990.

These regions saw very high growth rates during that time.

Industrialisation changes how families and cities look. Many people move from villages to crowded cities. This is called urbanisation.

Because cities are crowded, diseases like cholera can spread. Families also change from large groups to smaller ones. Often, parents and children live in one small home.

Some children even worked in coal mines in the past. Today, people look for cleaner ways to grow using new technology.
