Two friends started the group in Paris in 1981. They soon added more players to the band.

In the 1980s, the band became very popular. Their hit songs like "L'Aventurier" played on the radio everywhere. They had many fans in Europe and Latin America. In Sweden, fans screamed for them like they did for the Beatles. The band even played shows in Peru for 40,000 people.

Over the years, the band's music changed. Some albums had a darker sound. In 2002, they had a big comeback with the album Paradize. This album sold one million copies.

The band has faced hard times too. A member named Stéphane Sirkis died in 1999. He was the twin brother of Nicola Sirkis. He asked the band to keep playing.

Today, Indochine is still very active. They play in huge stadiums for giant crowds. In 2010, they played for 80,000 people at the Stade de France. They have sold over 10 million albums and singles worldwide.
