This roar consists of loud snorts followed by deep grunts.

Impalas also maintain their health through complex grooming habits. They are unique among ungulates because they practice both self-grooming and allogrooming, which is grooming other individuals. They have a special dental arrangement in their lower jaw that acts like a comb to remove parasites. They share a symbiotic relationship with oxpeckers, which are birds that eat ticks directly off the impala's skin.
