On May 1, 1776, Adam and four students formed the group. They used the Owl of Minerva as their symbol. Members used secret names to stay private. Adam used the name Spartacus. They had different ranks for members. Some members were very rich. They mostly wanted men between 18 and 30 years old.

Later, a man named Adolph Knigge joined.

He was a very good recruiter. He helped the group grow very fast. He brought in many new people.

But the group did not last long. A leader named Charles Theodore made a law. He said the group was not allowed. This happened between 1784 and 1790. After that, the group mostly went away. Today, many stories say the group still exists. People think they try to control the world. You can even see a similar eye symbol on US money.
