This word describes how much light hits a surface. It looks at the total light on a specific area.

We measure this in a unit called lux.

A lux meter is a tool used to measure light. People use these tools in work places.

Light levels can change a lot. Sunlight is very bright. You can read large text at 108 lux. That is 1,000 times brighter than direct sunlight. This much light can feel uncomfortable for your eyes.

Other times, light is very dim. A full moon has only 0.1 lux. Starlight is even dimmer. It has only 0.001 lux.

In space, astronomers use light to study stars. They look at how much light stars cast on our air. This helps them see how bright a star looks from Earth. Our eyes can see a very wide range of light. We can see things even in very tiny amounts of light.
