Robert Beck was a famous American writer. He used the name Iceberg Slim. People gave him this name because he was very slim. He was also known for staying calm in hard times.

Before he was a writer, Beck lived a very different life. He worked as a pimp. He wrote about this life in his book, Pimp. This book was his memoir, which is a story of a person's life. It sold nearly 2 million copies by 1973. Many people in the Black community loved his work. His stories were also translated into many languages. These included Spanish, French, and German.

Beck also made music. In 1976, he released an album called Reflections. On this record, he spoke his stories over funky music. People said his storytelling was very powerful.

His work changed how people wrote stories. He was one of the first to show the real world of the criminal underworld. Many hip-hop artists were later influenced by his words. Even some movies and comedy shows used his life as a way to tell new stories.
