This part of the brain has many big jobs. It helps control your body temperature. It also tells you when you are hungry or thirsty. It helps manage sleep and how you feel tired. It even helps with social behaviors.

One of its main jobs is to act as a bridge. It links your nervous system to your endocrine system. The endocrine system is a group of parts that use hormones to send messages. The hypothalamus talks to a part called the pituitary gland.

To do this, the hypothalamus makes special chemicals. These are called releasing hormones. These hormones tell the pituitary gland to let out its own hormones. This set of steps helps many parts of your body work together.
