Factories make this gas in a special way. They mix hydrogen and bromine together. They heat them to between 200 and 400 degrees Celsius. Often, they use platinum or asbestos to help the mix.

This gas can also be made in a lab. Scientists can mix sodium bromide or potassium bromide with acid. This process is called distillation.

When hydrogen bromide mixes with water, it forms hydrobromic acid. This acid is used to make many other things. It helps make organobromine compounds. These are parts used to make other chemicals.

We must use it with care. It is highly corrosive. This means it can eat away at things. If a person breathes it in, it can damage their lungs.
