People use this acid in many ways. Factories use it to refine metal. It is also used to make other chemicals. Some people mix it with nitric acid. This mix is called aqua regia. It is special because it can dissolve gold.

Most of this acid is made in big factories. One way to make it is to mix hydrogen and chlorine. This creates a gas called hydrogen chloride. Workers then soak that gas in water. This makes the liquid acid.
