HR workers have many jobs. They find and hire new people. They teach workers new skills. They also manage pay and benefits. Benefits are things like health care or time off for parents. HR helps if rules are broken. They work to stop unfair treatment.

This field has a long history. In the 1800s, men like Robert Owen saw that workers were key. They believed healthy workers made better work. In 1921, C S Myers helped start a new group in London. Later, researchers found that more than just money matters. Small changes can help people work better.

In the 1940s, a school for these studies opened at Cornell University.

Today, HR is very important. It helps companies follow laws. These laws protect workers. For example, some laws set a minimum wage. Other laws stop people from being treated unfairly. HR makes sure everyone is safe and follows the rules.
