Hiroshi Yamauchi was a powerful leader at Nintendo.

His family started the company a long time ago. They first made hanafuda, which are special playing cards. Yamauchi took over as president in 1949. He was very young then. He changed the company into a global brand. Under his lead, Nintendo began making video games.

He helped create many famous game machines. One was the Family Computer. In other places, it was called the Nintendo Entertainment System.

He also made the Super Nintendo. This machine was so popular that people camped outside stores. He wanted games to be easy to make. He believed artists were more important than technicians. This helped many new games reach players.

Yamauchi became very wealthy from his work. He was one of the richest people in Japan. He even helped buy the Seattle Mariners. This is a professional baseball team.

He led Nintendo for over fifty years. He stepped down as president in 2002. He spent his later years helping his city. He gave money to build a medical center in Kyoto.
