Araki's journey started in Sendai, Japan. He grew up with his parents and two identical twin sisters. He often spent time alone in his room reading manga. His father's art books and rock stars like David Bowie inspired him. He once traveled to Tokyo to visit publishers in person. He wanted to know why his early work was rejected. An editor told him his work had great potential. This helped him make his debut in 1980 with Poker Under Arms.

His most famous work has many different parts. The story begins in 1880s England with Jonathan Joestar. Early parts of the story use a breathing technique called Hamon. This special breathing gives characters different powers. Later parts of the series focus on powers called Stands. The third part is called Stardust Crusaders and is very popular. Each part follows different members of the Joestar family. These stories take place in many different parts of the world.

Araki's art has reached many famous places. In 2009, the Musée du Louvre in France invited him to create art. He drew a character named Rohan Kishibe for the museum. He also worked with the luxury brand Gucci. He made special art and even a life-size figure for them. In 2020, he made a poster for the Tokyo Paralympics. This piece was inspired by a famous print called The Great Wave off Kanagawa. He even made art to help people learn about the Hiraizumi ruins.

His work has a huge impact on modern culture. Many shows and games were inspired by his ideas. For example, the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise was inspired by his work. Even American shows like Family Guy use his style. People often use his art in internet memes. His famous "To Be Continued" screens became very popular on video sites. This shows how much his creativity connects with people everywhere. Araki continues to be an important figure in the art world.
