Bergson had a very unique way of looking at the world. He argued that science and math are not enough to understand reality. Instead, he believed that our own direct experiences are much more important. He used a tool called intuition to understand life. He thought that feeling things directly helps us see the truth. He also wrote about why humans laugh at certain things.

He believed laughter is a way to help people live better in a group. We often laugh when people act like rigid machines instead of living beings.

His journey into big ideas began in Paris. He was born near the old Paris opera house. His father was a famous composer and pianist. His mother came from an English and Irish Jewish background. Bergson grew up knowing the English language well. As a young student, he was very good at math. He even won a prize for solving a math problem at age 18.
