It belongs to the Mahayana branch of Buddhism. Many people call it the "Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom." It is one of the most used texts in this tradition. People read and study it every single day.

In the text, a figure named Avalokiteśvara speaks. This figure talks to a man named Śaripūtra. They talk about a big idea called emptiness.

The text says, "Form is emptiness, emptiness is form." This means things are not always what they seem. Avalokiteśvara explains how all things are connected.

There are two main versions of this sutra. The short version is the most popular one. It has 260 Chinese characters. The long version is different. It adds a part at the start. It also adds a part at the end to say thanks.
