Harry Greb was one of the most famous American boxers in history. People often called him the "Pittsburgh Windmill" because of how he moved. He had a very fast and aggressive way of fighting. He used quick movements to swarm his opponents in the ring. He was also known for being incredibly tough and having a strong chin. Greb was a champion who held the American light heavyweight title and the world middleweight title. He is considered one of the greatest boxers to ever live.

Winning fights was a huge part of Greb's life. He was a very busy athlete who fought 299 times in thirteen years. In 1917, he set a record by fighting 37 times in one year. He even won 45 fights in 1919 alone. This is a record that is very hard to break today. Greb would take on almost any opponent who was willing to fight him. He defeated many top fighters, from smaller welterweights to huge heavyweights. He even beat 16 different fighters who were later put into the Hall of Fame.

Being a professional boxer was a very hard job for Greb's body. He suffered many injuries during his long career. In 1921, he was hit in the eye during a fight with Kid Norfolk. This injury eventually caused him to lose sight in his right eye. Greb kept this a secret from almost everyone so he could keep fighting. He even memorized the letters on eye charts to pass his medical tests. Later in his life, his right eye was removed and replaced with a glass eye.

One of Greb's most famous matches was against Gene Tunney in 1922. This match was called the "Fight of the Year" by Ring Magazine. Greb won the fight and became the light heavyweight champion. However, Tunney later won the title back in a very close match in 1923. The two men fought each other five times in total. During one fight, Greb even asked Tunney not to knock him out. Tunney later said that Greb's respect was a great honor.

Greb was a special person because he was very fair. During a time when many white boxers refused to fight Black athletes, Greb was different. He regularly accepted fights against top Black fighters like Jack Blackburn and Tiger Flowers. This showed his dedication to the sport and his skill. Today, many groups honor his memory. He has been placed in the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame. He was even named the fighter of the 1920s by The Sporting News.
