He served as the Prime Minister twice during his long career. He led the Labour Party for many years from 1963 to 1976. People remember him for leading his party through many difficult times. He was a man who worked hard to change how the country functioned. His life shows how much one person can do in politics.

Wilson's path to leadership began with his studies and his work. He went to Jesus College at Oxford University to study many subjects. He studied philosophy, politics, and economics, which is often called PPE. He was a very bright student and won many academic awards. After university, he worked as a teacher and a researcher. During World War II, he worked for the government using math and facts.

His political journey started in earnest after the Second World War. In 1945, he was elected to Parliament for the first time. He worked for the government of Prime Minister Clement Attlee. At only 31 years old, he became a member of the Cabinet. He was the youngest person to join the Cabinet in that century. He worked hard to end wartime rules like food rationing.

This helped people buy bread and jam more easily.

Wilson led the country through many big changes in the 1960s. He became Prime Minister in 1964 after a narrow election victory. His government helped change many laws to make society more fair. They worked to stop racial discrimination and change divorce laws. They also helped change laws regarding birth control and abortion.

He also met with many world leaders during this time. He met US President John F. Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson.

During his second term, he helped lead a vote about joining the European Communities. After he left office, he became a member of the House of Lords.
