The weather is a hot desert climate. Summers are hot and winters are cool with frequent frosts. Because the city is at a high altitude, it feels a bit milder than other cities in the kingdom.

Much of the land around Hail is used for farming. The area produces a lot of grain, dates, and fruit. In the northeast, there are many irrigated gardens. Irrigation is a way to bring water to plants to help them grow. This makes the region a very important place for wheat production in Saudi Arabia. The Adayra Valley also runs through the area. It flows from north to south and divides central Hail into two parts.

History plays a big role in the identity of Hail. Long ago, the city was the capital of the Emirate of Jabal Shammar. This state was ruled by the Rashidi dynasty from 1836 until 1921.

The Rashidi rulers were often kind to foreign travelers. Many famous people wrote books about their trips to Hail. One such traveler was Gertrude Bell, who visited in 1914. In 1921, Ibn Saud took control of the area. He ordered the destruction of the Barzan Palace after the conquest.

At night, a gas-powered fire burns on the summit. This honors the campfire of Hatim al-Tai. He was a famous poet known for his great generosity.

Today, Hail is a modern place with many connections. It has an international airport for flights. There is also a railway station that connects Hail to Riyadh. The University of Hail was officially founded in 2006. People also enjoy sports like the Hail Rally. This is a famous car rally that started in 2006. You can even find traditional food at the At-Turathy Restaurant. It feels like a museum because of all the local items on display.
