It sits between the Aja and Salma mountains. The city is the main part of the Hail Province. About 498,575 people live there.

The land around Hail is good for farming. Many people grow wheat, dates, and fruit. In the northeast, there are many gardens. These gardens use irrigation, which is a way to bring water to plants.

Long ago, Hail was very rich. It sat on a path used by camel caravans. The people are famous for being kind. A man named Hatim al-Tai lived there. He was a very famous poet. He was so good at sharing that people still talk about him.
