Erik Satie was a French piano player and writer. He finished three short songs by April 1888.

These songs are called Gymnopédies. The name comes from an old Greek festival. At this festival, young men would dance. Some people think the name came from a poem. Others think it came from a book.

These songs have a special mood. They use notes that sound a bit sharp. This makes the music feel sad or serious. Satie wanted the player to play them in a grave way.

Some say his music feels like certain paintings.

Satie had a friend named Claude Debussy. Debussy was a very famous composer. He helped more people hear Satie's work.

Today, these songs are still very important. They are like early versions of ambient music. You can hear them in many movies and TV shows. Some people even use them in video games. They remain a famous part of piano music.
