He was a monk who loved music. He wanted to help singers learn songs more easily. Before Guido, singers had to memorize every note. This took a very long time.

Guido made a new way to write music. He used staff notation. This is a system of lines used to show notes.

He also made a way to name notes. He used the syllables ut, re, mi, fa, sol, and la.

These sounds came from a hymn called "Ut Queant Laxis." This helped people remember the pitch of each note. Later, people changed "ut" to "do."

Guido wrote a famous book called Micrologus. It was a guide for singers. He also taught at the Arezzo Cathedral. His big ideas changed how people make and read music forever.
