Many greylag geese migrate. This means they fly to warmer places for winter. They travel in large flocks. Living in a group helps them stay safe. Some birds watch for danger while others eat.

Other geese stay in the same place all year.

Greylag geese eat many things. They mostly eat grass. They also eat grain, plants, and small bugs. They can even eat small fish.

These birds make nests on the ground. They use grass, moss, and feathers. A female sits on the eggs to keep them warm. This is called incubation. It lasts about twenty-eight days. Both parents help raise the young chicks. The chicks can leave the nest soon after they hatch.
