It is often called Hades. This is named after the god who rules it. Hades is the brother of Zeus and Poseidon. He is the son of Titans named Cronus and Rhea. The underworld is a dark and unseen place. Some say it sits under the earth. Others say it is at the edge of the ocean.

Many rivers flow through this realm. The Styx is a famous river. It is known as the river of hatred. Another river is the Lethe. It is the river of forgetfulness.

There are different areas for different people. Most souls live in the Asphodel Meadows. Some special people go to the Elysian Fields. This is a happy and perfect place.
