Many provinces sit inside its borders.

The land is very dry. It does not get much rain. In winter, some rain falls from the sky. This rain flows from the nearby mountains. It creates big lakes and marshes. The heat dries the water up fast. This leaves thick crusts of salt on the ground. You will see sand and pebbles too.

Some animals live here. They can survive the heat and salty soil. You might see camels or wild sheep. Persian gazelles also live in the area. At night, wild cats and wolves come out. It is hard to grow food here. Heat and storms change the land. Very few people live in this wild place.
