These rocks form very deep in the Earth. It is very hot there. The heat can be over 700 degrees Celsius. The rocks also feel a lot of weight. This weight is called pressure. These high heat and pressure levels change the rocks. They make the minerals change into new parts.

Granulites often look like they are made of tiny grains. The name comes from a Latin word for "a little grain." You might see small pink or red spots in the rock. These spots are garnets. Many granulites also have feldspar and quartz. These parts fit together like a puzzle.

Some granulites have a banded look. This means they have lines of minerals. Other types are dark and almost black. Geologists like to study these rocks. They help us learn about the deep crust of our planet. Some granulites stay deep in the Earth. Others move to shallower levels. They tell a story of how our world changes.
