It had a very large skull. Two teeth were very long. These were its canine teeth. They were so big they almost went past its lower jaw. To keep these teeth safe, its jaw was thick at the front.

This helped protect the teeth from damage. Gorgonops also had a special way of walking. Most animals then had legs that spread out to the sides. Gorgonops had a semi-erect gait. This means its legs were more under its body. This way of moving helped it save power. It also let the animal move at high speeds. One type was called Gorgonops torvus. It had a skull about 22 cm long. It had a long snout. Scientists found many fossils in the Karoo Basin. These fossils help us learn about this hunter.
