A goal is a way to score in many sports.

In some games, the goal is the only way to score. The team with the most goals wins the match. In association football, the ball must go under a crossbar. It must also pass between two goal posts.

In ice hockey, players use a puck. The puck must go between the posts and under the bar. The goal has a net to catch the puck.

Other sports use different ways to score. In basketball, you throw a ball through a ring.

This ring is called a basket. A basket can be worth two or three points. In Australian rules football, there is no crossbar. Instead, there are four tall posts. A goal is worth six points. If the ball misses the main posts, it might be a "behind." A behind is worth only one point. In polo, the ball can go at any height. It just has to pass between the two poles. Every sport has its own special way to play and win.
