He was born in New York in 1967. Before he wrote news, he was a lawyer. He studied law at New York University. He started his own law firm in 1996. He helped people protect their civil rights. These are the basic freedoms people have in the U.S.

In 2005, he began to write as a blogger. He wanted to talk about how the government works. In 2012, he joined a British newspaper called The Guardian. This was a big step for his career. He worked with a man named Edward Snowden. Snowden gave him secret papers. These papers showed how the U.S. and UK watch people.

This work won many awards. The Guardian won a Pulitzer Prize for these stories. Greenwald also won the George Polk Award. In 2014, he helped start a news site called The Intercept. He left that site in 2020. Now, he shares his news through his own newsletter and shows. He wants to tell stories that matter to the world.
