Before he was a star, Ford learned many different skills. His father, Newton Ford, was an engineer for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Newton told his son to learn how to build things. He said Glenn should learn to take a car apart or build a house.

Ford's journey began in Sainte-Christine-d'Auvergne, Quebec, Canada. He was born there on May 1, 1916. When he was six years old, his family moved to the United States. They first lived in Venice, California, and then moved to Santa Monica.
