Georges Braque was a famous French artist.

He grew up learning to paint and decorate houses. Later, he became a great painter and sculptor.

In 1905, Braque joined a group called the Fauves. This group used very bright colors to show feelings. Braque also helped start a new style called Cubism. He worked closely with Pablo Picasso to make it.

Cubism uses shapes like cubes to show objects. Braque liked to paint still lifes. These are paintings of everyday things like guitars or fruit.

He liked still lifes because he wanted to feel the space around them. He even invented a way to make art by gluing paper to a surface. This is called papier collé.

Braque fought in a war in 1914. He hurt his head in battle and could not see for a while. He kept painting after he got well. He lived until 1963. His art is now in many big museums.
