He lived in Alexandria around 150 AD. The book is called the Geography. It was a guide to the known world.

It helped people learn about many places.

Ptolemy used special math to make maps. He used lines called latitude and longitude. These lines help find a place's exact spot. He used the same system we use today! His maps went from the Atlantic Ocean to China. He knew that Europe only knew a small part of the Earth.

The book has eight parts. Some parts explain how to make maps. Other parts are long lists of names. These lists have 8,000 names of places.

The book also had many maps. Some sets had 64 regional maps. In Europe, most sets had 26 maps. These showed parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia. Later, people in the Islamic world translated his work into Arabic. This helped many people learn about geography for a long time.
