It lives in the Pacific Ocean. You can find them from Alaska to Baja California. This clam is the largest burrowing clam in the world. That means it is the biggest clam that lives in the sand.

Geoducks live for a very long time. Most live to be 140 years old. One clam lived to be 179 years old! Scientists can tell their age by looking at the shell. The shell has annual rings. These are tiny lines that form every year.

To eat, the clam uses a long tube called a siphon. It sucks water through the siphon to find food called plankton. It then lets out waste through a different hole. This siphon can be over 3 feet long. Many animals try to eat them. Sea otters and starfish will attack the siphon. Because they have few predators, they live many years. They are very popular in many foods. People in China and Japan enjoy eating them.
