This book was made by scholars in Geneva. They were English people who had to leave their home. William Whittingham led the work on this translation.

Many people liked this version. It was easy to carry because it came in small sizes. Some people called it the Breeches Bible. This was because of a story about Adam and Eve. The text said they made "breeches" to cover themselves.

This Bible was very popular with Puritans. They even took it to America on the Mayflower ship.

Some leaders did not like this book. King James I did not like the notes in the margins. These notes were small bits of text that explained the stories. He wanted a new version to replace it. That new version became the King James Bible. Still, the Geneva Bible was used for a long time. It even inspired Benjamin Franklin's design for the Great Seal of the United States.
