A gasket is a special seal.

It sits between two parts of a machine. It fills tiny gaps so nothing leaks out.

Most gaskets are made from flat sheets. These sheets can be made of rubber or metal.

Some gaskets are made of soft plastic.

When you tighten bolts, you squeeze the gasket. This squeeze helps the seal work better. A tight squeeze can make it last longer.

Some gaskets use metal rings. These are used for very strong jobs. They work well in big pipes.

It is important to pick the right material. The wrong one might not stop a leak. Using the right seal keeps machines safe.
