This group became powerful during the Cultural Revolution. This was a time of big changes in China. The group used newspapers to spread their ideas. They also used groups of people called militias. After the leader Mao died in 1976, the group lost its power. A new leader named Hua Guofeng had the army on his side. He had the four leaders arrested in October 1976.
