Game art design

arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Game art design is the way people make the art for video games. It starts before the game is even built. Artists make rough sketches of characters and places. These are called concept designs. They help show the look of the game.

In small teams, one person might do many jobs. In big teams, artists have special roles. A concept artist draws the first ideas. A storyboard artist plans how scenes and cameras move. Texture artists add detail to 3D models. They make things look like they have real skin or wood.

3D modellers use software to build characters and buildings. Animators make these things move to look real. Lighting artists change the brightness to set a mood. Some artists are technical artists. They act as a bridge between the art and the code. They help solve problems so the art works in the game.

Early games had very simple looks. They were often made by just one person. Now, art can look very real. Artists use tools like pens or special computer software. Good art is important. It helps players decide if they want to play a game.
