Galmudug is a state in central Somalia.

Its name comes from two regions. These are the Galgaduud and Mudug regions. The state sits near the Indian Ocean. It also borders Ethiopia to the west.

Making the state was a long task. In 2011, leaders from nearby Puntland signed a deal. They agreed to work together on safety and trade. Later, leaders from different areas met to form a new state. They signed an agreement in Mogadishu in 2014. This helped bring the regions together. Dhusamareb became the capital city.

Many different groups of people live in Galmudug. These groups include the Hawiye, Darod, and Dir clans. People live in both towns and the countryside. There are many schools for students. Some universities are in towns like Adado and Galkayo. The government also wants to open free schools.
