Ahmed Abdallah was a top leader in the Comoros. The Comoros is a group of islands. He was born in 1919 on Anjouan island.

Ahmed worked in the government for many years. In 1975, the islands became independent from France. Ahmed became the first president of the new nation. But his time as leader ended quickly after a coup. A coup is when people use force to take power.

Ahmed returned to power in 1978. He led the islands again until 1989. During this time, a man named Bob Denard held much power. Denard led a group of fighters called mercenaries. These fighters helped run the country. Ahmed's party was the only legal group. This meant he had full control.

Life was hard for some people during this time. Some people who disagreed with the leaders were killed. In 1989, Ahmed was shot and killed in his office. Many people believe Denard was behind it. Denard later went to court in France. A judge said there was not enough proof to convict him.
