Many people loved watching him play because he was a great striker. A striker is a player whose main job is to score goals. Because he scored so many goals, fans gave him nicknames like "Batigol" and "El Ángel Gabriel," which means Angel Gabriel. He is considered one of the best strikers to ever play the game. In 2004, the legend Pelé even named him one of the greatest living players. His skill and power made him a true star on the field.

Batistuta's journey to fame involved many different teams and hard work. He started his career in Argentina with Newell's Old Boys in 1988. At first, things were difficult because he was away from his family. His coach, Marcelo Bielsa, helped him train hard and change his body. He then played for big clubs like River Plate and Boca Juniors. At Boca Juniors, his manager Óscar Tabárez moved him to the center of attack. This change helped him become the league's top scorer in 1991.

Most of his famous years were spent playing in Italy. He played for the club Fiorentina for many seasons. He scored 151 goals for them in the Serie A league. When the team was moved to a lower league in 1993, he stayed to help them return. The fans in Florence loved him so much that they built a bronze statue of him in 1996. Later, he moved to Roma in 2000 for 36 million euros. This was a very high price for a player over 30 years old. Moving to Roma helped him finally win the Serie A title.

He was also a hero for the Argentina national team. Batistuta scored 56 goals for his country in 78 matches. This was a huge record that lasted until Lionel Messi broke it in 2016. He played in three FIFA World Cups and scored 10 goals there. He is the only player to score two hat-tricks in different World Cups. A hat-trick is when a player scores three goals in a single game. He also won two Copa América titles in 1991 and 1993.

Playing professional football for many years was very hard on his body. The stress of the game caused him great pain in his ankles. Even though he has difficulty walking now, he stays active in other ways. He enjoys playing golf and polo instead of football. He also runs his own construction company in Argentina. He once said that he lived and breathed football while he was playing. Now, he can look back at his amazing career with great satisfaction.
