sports Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Fritz Walter was a great German football player.

He played for one club his whole career. That club was 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He stayed there to be near his home. He also wanted to play for his coach, Sepp Herberger.

Fritz was the captain of the West German team. In 1954, his team won the FIFA World Cup. His brother, Ottmar Walter, played on that team too. They were the first brothers to win it together.

Fritz played very well in the rain. People call rainy days "Fritz Walter's weather." He had malaria from the war. This made it hard for him to stand the heat.

He was a very special leader. He was named a Golden Player for his skill. The German football group also gave him a special medal. This medal is now for young players. His home team even named their stadium after him.
