sports Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Juan Manuel Fangio was a famous racing driver from Argentina.

He was known as "el Maestro," which means "the Master." He was very good at driving fast cars.

Fangio won five Formula One World Championship titles. This was a record that lasted for 46 years. He was also the only driver to win titles with four different teams. These teams were Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, and Ferrari. He won 24 races in total. This gave him a very high winning percentage.

Racing in the 1950s was very hard. Drivers did not have seatbelts or roll-over protection. They often wore simple hats made of paper-mache. The cars were hot and loud. Drivers could get blisters on their hands from steering.

Fangio was very brave and patient. In one race, he drove for three hours in hot weather. Other drivers took turns, but he drove the whole time. In another race, he had a slow pit stop. He did not give up. He drove very fast to catch the leaders. He even beat the lap record several times to win.
