He lived in Germany in the 1800s. He was a music historian and a publisher. This means he studied old music and made books of it.

Friedrich wanted to keep old music true. He did not want to add new sounds to it. He wanted people to hear it as it was first made. He worked very hard on the music of George Frideric Handel. He made over 100 volumes of Handel's music. This was a big task. At one point, his publisher quit. Friedrich set up an engraving shop in his own home to finish the work. He even sold fruit and vegetables from his garden to earn money.

He also found a special piece of music. It was the original score for the Mass in B Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. He sold it to a big library in Berlin. He only charged them the same price he paid for it. Friedrich also worked with Johannes Brahms. Together, they edited music by François Couperin le Grand. His work helped keep many old songs alive for us today.
